Vernice Jean Balmer, 79, of Kahoka died August 1, 2026 at the Clark County Care Center in Kahoka.
She was born the daughter of Robert Leroy Coop Sr. and Mattie Belle (Dunn) Coop on February 3, 1947 in Keokuk.
Jean was married to Harold Dwayne Balmer on December 2, 1963. He preceded her in death on May 11, 1998. To this union three daughters were born: Elen Hope, Tracy Lynn and Gayland Sue.
She was a very loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She liked going to yard sales and her favorite television shows were Gunsmoke and Mama’s Family. Jean enjoyed the little things in life and was loved deeply. She was loved by all and will be missed dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers: Robert LeRoy Coop, Jr., and his wife Jackie Coop, and Richard Coop; her nephews, Robert LeRoy Coop III and Mathew Coop, and a brother-in-law, Leroy Miller.
She is survived by her children: Hope (Bobby) Missen of Quincy, Tracy (Chris) Sutphin of Newton, Iowa and Gayland Irvin of Keokuk; sisters, Cindy Miller and Gail (Max) Gutting, all of Kahoka; two brothers: David Coop of Tennessee and Tom Coop of Keokuk; grandchildren: Daniel Missen, Joseph Missen, Natalie Missen, Blayne Irvin, Elizabeth Irvin, Amber Bohannon, and Katelyn Bohannon; one great grandchild, Ainsley Hope Missen; several nieces and nephews.
