Mahlon H. Zimmerman, Jr., age 73, of rural Memphis, MO, passed away peacefully at home on May 9, 2013 after a lengthy illness.
He was born on April 6, 1940 in Lancaster County, PA, to Mahlon and Anna (Horning) Zimmerman, Sr. At age two, Mahlon moved with his family to California. Two years later they moved back to Lancaster County, PA for a short time. When he was age four, they moved to Sarasota, FL.
At age nineteen, Mahlon moved to Lancaster County, PA. On March 2, 1963, he was united in marriage to Sarah Ann Shirk. In 1973, Mahlon and his family moved to a farm near Memphis, MO.
Mahlon was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Dean Zimmerman and an infant son; two brothers, Paul Zimmerman and Amos Zimmerman; a sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Jacob Burkholder; a brother-in-law, Ivan Burkholder; and two grandsons, Mitchell High and Joash Weaver.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Ann Zimmerman; one son and four daughters: Willard (Sharon Martin) Zimmerman of Fortuna, MO, Wanda Zimmerman of Memphis, MO, Roseann (Jay Martin) of Eldon, MO, Melody (Lamar High) of Gorin, MO, Jolene (Paul Weaver) of Jonestown, PA; twenty-two grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Esther (Bob) Souder of Danville, PA and Kathy (Lowell) Grove of Hanover, PA; and a sister-in-law, Frances Zimmerman of Tipton, MO.
Mahlon was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Dean Zimmerman and an infant son; two brothers, Paul Zimmerman and Amos Zimmerman; a sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Jacob Burkholder; a brother-in-law, Ivan Burkholder; and two grandsons, Mitchell High and Joash Weaver.
He was a member of Meadowview Mennonite Church.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at 9 a.m. at Hillcrest Mennonite Community Center near Memphis and at 9:30 a.m. at Meadowview Mennonite Church north of Memphis. Officiants were Bishop Luke Fox, Vernon Oberholtzer, Edwin Horst, Talmon Martin and Carl Hoover. Casketbearers were Joshlyn Martin, Ryan Martin, Tristan Zimmerman, Justin Martin, Brent High and Kristopher High.
Burial is in the Meadowview Cemetery.
Visitation is from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, May 14 at the Hillcrest Mennonite Center.
