Iris Ilene Armstrong

{December 18, 1934 - May 3, 2014}

Iris Ilene Armstrong, 79, of Plano, TX, died Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Medical Center of Plano, TX.

She was born the daughter of Margret Ann Wright Armstrong and Ora Earl Armstrong on December 18, 1934 near Memphis, Missouri. Iris attended grade school in Arbela, Missouri and graduated in 1953 from Sparland High School in Sparland, Illinois. She later moved to St. Paul, Minnesota where she worked for the YMCA until her retirement. In the spring of 2008 Iris moved to Little Elm, Texas to be closer to family.

Iris accepted the Lord at an early age and was baptized at Arbela Baptist Church. As a resident of St. Paul for over fifty years, Iris was a faithful member of First Baptist Church and active in the Mary Martha woman’s group. Her family and friends will remember her as a true servant of the Lord, always putting others before herself. She will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Lois Armstrong Drillon, Norma Armstrong, Doris Armstrong and Cleota Armstrong; four brothers, Kenneth Armstrong, Merlin Armstrong, Leland Armstrong and Gale Armstrong.

Iris is survived by two sisters; Kathlene Schutz of Savanna, Illinois and Delma (Monty) Kelley of Crossroads, Texas; three brothers, Darrell Armstrong (Wilma) of Hesperia, California, Vancel Armstrong (Pattie) of Lucerne, Indiana and Dallas Armstrong (Brenda) of Shelbyville, Missouri; a sister-in-law Pat Armstrong of Luray; many beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis with Dan Hite, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Bible Grove Church of Christ Cemetery.

Visitation is prior to the service from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday.

Memorials are suggested to the family.
