Ed Heckethorn Sr.

{January 31,1954 - December 24, 2012}

 

Omar Edward “Ed” Heckethorn, Sr., 58, of Memphis, MO, passed away in his home on Monday, December 24, 2012.

The son of Emmett Porter and Virginia M (Chambers) Heckethorn, he was born on January 31, 1954 in Crawford County, Missouri.  Ed graduated from Gorin High School, in 1972.

He was in the United States Army from September 8, 1972 and was honorably discharged on May 3, 1974.  He served in Vietnam and Korea.  After the service, he moved to Eldon, Missouri.

Ed liked to hunt and fish.  He enjoyed crafting items out of wood.

On December 12, 1987, he married Phyllis Doyle in St. James, MO where they resided until 2009. They then moved to Memphis.

Ed was a member of the Gorin United Methodist Church and the Gorin Go-Getters 4H Club.

Preceding him in death were his father and his brother, James Blain.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, six children, Michael Pendleton, Virginia Bates, Lucas Heckethorn, Charley Huss, Donita Mathis, and Omar Heckethorn, Jr;  nine grandchildren; his mother, Virginia (Ivan) Woods; his brother, Wesley Heckethorn; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loved ones.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 28, 2012, at 2pm. in the Gerth Funeral Chapel with Pastor Homer Poor officiating. Burial will be in the Gorin Cemetery with military gravesite rites conducted by the Wallace W. Gillespie Memorial Post #4958.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 28, 2012, prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. in the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis.

Memorials have been suggested  to the Wounded Warriors Project.

  3. d was my good friend and I was in shocked when wesley told me about his passing. I pray for God to send comfort and peace and everyday seeems like a struggle but in timeit will be a little better,he’s in a better place now looking down on family and friends,it was an honor to be his friend.
