Cathy (Brown) Thomas

{March 4, 1958 - June 14, 2013}

Cathy (Brown) Thomas, 55, of rural Memphis died early Friday morning, June 14, 2013 at her home.

She was born the daughter of Harold Dale and Leta (Barnes) Brown on March 4, 1958 in Keosauqua, Iowa.

Cathy married Randy Thomas on May 19, 2012 at the Rutledge Christian Church.  He survives.

She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and adored dog, Eddie.  Cathy worked as a CNA as well as a hostess at the Catfish Place.  Cathy always looked forward to afternoon coffee with her sister Janet before the restaurant opened.   She also enjoyed sneaking away to the casino and playing cards.   Cathy collected angel figurines and was a fan of WWE wresting.   She got to see her favorite wrestler, John Cena, in person during a WWE event.

Cathy enjoyed playing the lottery and once won a $100,000 payout.

Cathy was preceded in death by a daughter in infancy, Dana Brooke Jenkins; her father; grandparents Audrey and Earl Barnes and Thelma and Wayne Brown.

She is survived by her husband, Randy, and beloved K-9, Eddie, of the home; mother, Leta Brown of Kahoka; children, Dawn and husband Peter Graham of Healy, AK, Andrea Jenkins and Brooke Jenkins, and her special friend, Andrew Washburn, all of Kahoka; step children, Maranda and husband Shane Ziebarth of Macon, MO, and Sandra and husband Craig Swearingen of Memphis; a brother, Roy and wife Brenda Brown of Kahoka; sisters, Brenda and husband Jerry Cochenour of Arbela, Debbie Rudd of Montrose, IA, Beverly and husband Everett Frady of Kirksville, Janet and husband Mark Mattingly of Memphis, and Tami and husband Rick Townsend of Montrose; a brother-in-law, Rodney and wife Debbie Thomas of Gorin; grandchildren, Hannah and Bethany Graham of Healy; Joel Jenkins, Alanna Lewis, Evin and Aaliyah Edmondson and Isaiah Washburn, all of Kahoka, Tristan and Bethany Ziebarth of Macon, Landyn, Justin, Makyla, and Maezy Swearingen, all of Memphis; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis.   Officiating the service will be Pastor Mark Boley.  Burial will be in the Granger Cemetery.

Visitation is from 12-8 p.m., Tuesday, June 18 at the Gerth Funeral Home in Memphis with the family present from 6-8 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Scotland County Cancer Fund or the Granger Cemetery.
