Bettie J. Corn

{September 5, 1937 - April 30, 2013}

Bettie J. Corn, 75, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at Scotland County Hospital.

She was born September 5th, 1937 in Memphis, MO to Ernest (Mike) Russell and Demma Regnold.

Bettie grew up in Memphis, graduating from Memphis High School in May 1956. On June 3rd, 1956 she married Arthur Chrisman, and to this union two children were born. She later married Euel Dean Corn on April 28, 1968 in Bartlesville, OK.

She worked most of her life as a cook in several restaurants, and for a time she and her husband Dean owned and operated The Western Truck Stop in Liberty, MO. She moved to Lake Worth, Florida where she spent several years before returning to Memphis in 1990. She was a cook in the dietary department of the Scotland County Care Center until her retirement at age 65.

Bettie was preceded in death by her parents and two stepfathers, Dillard Cline and John Lutz: both of her husbands; three brothers, James Russell, Frank Russell and Hughie Cline; and three sisters, Shirley Russell, Jolene (Jody) Russell and Janis Russell.

She is survived by a sister, Ruby Hunter of Blue Springs, MO; daughters, Theresa Chrisman of West Palm Beach, FL and Susan Boyd of Ottumwa, IA; grandchildren, Amanda Rodgers, Richard Chrisman, William Chrisman, Christopher Honeycutt, Justin Chrisman and Tyler Chrisman of West Palm Beach, FL, Zenna Boyd and Tristan Boyd of Ottumwa, IA, and Michael Boyd of Fairfield, IA; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

A memorial service will be held June 7, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at Gerth Funeral Chapel. Bettie requested that no flowers be sent for her memorial service, but send instead a balloon bouquet to be released at the Memphis Cemetery after the service. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

  1. So sorry to learn about the passing of Betty Jean, she was a classmate from 3rd grade on.. RIP Betty as you have well earned it..
